Dark colour nail polish turns your nails yellow?

is it true that dark coloured nail polish turns your nails yellowish after a while. because i like dark pinks and purples. it looks good on me but how do i prevent the breaking and weak nails?Dark colour nail polish turns your nails yellow?
The pigment in the darker colors of nail polish is what stains your nails, causing the yellowish stain. The drier your nails are, the more of the pigment they soak up. When you are not wearing nail polish, keep your hands and nails well moisturized. I'm not sure about dark pinks, but when I use black or dark purples it does turn my nails yellow. And it usually takes a while for the yellow to go away.


Try using an under-coat polish first and then apply the actual color. It will help keep the nail healthier.


For actual breaking and weak nails you might want to buy some nail polish that would prevent them from braking. I like sally hansons brand for that kinda stuff.

any nail polish will stain ur nails if u keep it on a long time. its cuz ur like putting a plastic coating over ur nails and they need air to breathe. if u don't let ur nails breathe then the cells under it will die and they will turn yellow. just don't wear nail polish for over an extended period of time
put on a base coat of clear strengthener before you put on your polish! :)
not at all. i luv dark colors too and wear them on my nails. to prevent weak nails eat lots of dairy and iron(milk, cheese, meat, beans)
Any color of nail polish will turn your nails yellow if you leave it on for too long. Your nails need some sunlight %26amp; fresh air to stay healthy (and not yellow)... having nail polish on blocks light %26amp; air from reaching the nail surface. You can wear whatever color polish you want to wear. Just make sure you wash it off after 1-3 days, and then wait another day or so before putting polish on again, so that your nails get a rest. Another good reason to wash off the polish: Certain colors, when left on for too long, will stain your nails. For instance, fire-engine red polish (supposedly) will stain your nails if you leave it on for a more than a few days before washing it off.





Also, make sure that you're getting proper nutrition and drinking enough water - keep your nails strong and healthy.

dark colors can stain your nails, so try using a nail buffer to get rid of the yellowness.
i guess so. coz i always use black nail polish on my nails, and when i remove it, my nails are kinda yellowish. i always thought that the acetone caused it. but when i tried putting on a different color, like dirty white, and when i removed it, my nails wasn't yellowish at all.
